Mrs. Ducote: Art Teacher

“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”
––Edward Hopper

Hello! I am Mrs. Kate Ducote. This is my eighth year to teach art at Hardin-Jefferson High School. I graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Design. Prior to teaching, I worked in the fields of Media Broadcasting, Graphic Design, and Corporate Advertising. I have experience working in various fine art media including watercolor, oil paints, charcoal, pen and ink, pastels, printmaking media, ceramics, metal works, photography, illustration, and graphic design. My hobbies are creating, reading, running, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I am certified to teach Art to all levels, and I am trained to teach GT students. I started my teaching career as a special education teacher. I have taught in the fields of special education and 6th-8th grade math. I am very passionate about art education and am excited to be able to teach and share my knowledge of the visual art world with HJ students!

I want to personally welcome you to the HJHS Art Department! I am pleased to inform you that I currently offer the following courses:
• Art Levels 1-4
• A.P. Art
• Painting Level 3

I am also happy to share our high school's beautiful art room with you! The room includes plenty of sinks for washing brushes and hands, a large window which provides natural light for drawing and accurate color use, and a kiln for firing clay. There is even an outdoor work area for great weather days or project work that requires ventilation. Thanks to our school board, administrators and community for supporting this exciting building plan, many generations will benefit from the use of these fine facilities!

Please contact me anytime!
